inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto wants Indonesia to accelerate the achievement of the Net Zero Emission target by 2060, one of which is by increasing its role in supporting battery needs for the electric car industry.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Investment and Downstream/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani after holding a closed meeting with the President at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, on Thursday (2/6/2025).

"We are already committed to Net Zero Emission (NZE) in 2060, in fact the President wishes it can be achieved faster," said the BKPM Minister.

He said that Indonesia currently has great potential in the electric vehicle supply chain, especially when the nickel resources and battery recycling facilities are already available.

According to the data of the BKPM Ministry, electric car production in Indonesia is around 1.2 million per year and still growing. It is expected to reach 2.5 million units in 2030.

However, he assessed that the development of electric car manufacturing in the country still needs to be strengthened.

Several foreign electric car manufacturers such as Hyundai, BYD, and Wuling have invested in Indonesia, but still under the names of each company.

The government wants Indonesia to have a bigger role in this industry, including through the development of local vehicles such as the Maung, which has the potential to be developed further, Rosan added.

"We will work on it further. We already have Maung and we will see its future development as well in terms," said the BKPM Minister.
