Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Brigadier General Gatot Repli Handoko, the Indonesian National Police (INP) Public Relations Division Head of Multimedia Bureau, said on Wednesday (11/12/2024) that the location of online gambling servers in countries where gambling is legal creates significant challenges for law enforcement.

"They operate from countries where gambling is allowed, so we must collaborate with international partners to track down these operators," he said during a seminar on crisis communication and online gambling on Wednesday (11/12/2024).

With over 212 million internet users in Indonesia and a low literacy rate, online gambling is quickly spreading.

"Many people now have multiple devices—one for work and another for gaming, including online gambling," Chief Gatot added, as quoted by antaranews.com.

He said that the INP is e committed to tackling online gambling, even within their own ranks in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto's directive to combat gambling, corruption, and other crimes.

According to the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), 3.2 million Indonesians engage in online gambling. The gambling industry generated an estimated Rp 600 trillion in 2024, with most profits flowing to ASEAN countries.
