Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Kite Fighting Association (Perlasi) will hold the 2024 National Kite Fighting Championship from August 9-11 at the Perlasi Rorotan Field in Jakarta, featuring 196 participants from 23 provinces competing for a total prize of Rp 150 million.
Essa Muhamad, the Chairman of Perlasi, said on Wednesday (7/8/2024) that the committee has to turn down 128 applicants due to full slots.
He emphasized that kite fighting is evolving into a competitive sport requiring skill, analysis, and stamina. The sport now has an international federation based in France, according to antaranews.com.
Since Indonesia is seen as a global benchmark for kite sports, Essa hoped the government would support kite fighting, recognizing its potential both as a cultural asset and a growth opportunity for SMEs.
The championship will follow a knockout format, with competitors playing three rounds in each match to accumulate points.
