Police Arrest Four Illegal Gold Miners in Mamuju

inp.polri.go.id - Mamuju. The Mamuju Sub-regional City Police have named four suspects in three illegal gold mining cases uncovered in Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi.

Mamuju Sub-regional City Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Ferdyan Indra Fahmi, stated in Mamuju on Wednesday (7/29/2026) that the four suspects have the initials AM (36), GS (41), D (33), and A (53).

According to him, AM was named suspect in the illegal gold mining case in Kondobulo Village, Kalumpang District, GS in Karataun Village, Kalumpang District, while D and A were named suspects in the case in Buttuada Village, Bonehau District.

Indra stated that the four suspects have been detained at the Mamuju Sub-regional City Police Detention Center for 20 days for investigation.

The suspects are being charged under Law Number 3 of 2020 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining and other criminal provisions related to environmental protection and forestry.

In addition to naming the suspects, investigators confiscated several pieces of evidence, including two excavators, a sand suction machine, a water pump, a trench, a filter carpet, a pan, and gold mined from the mine.

According to Ferdyan, the suspects were operating the gold mining activities using heavy equipment without official permits, with the motive of economic gain.

He emphasized that the Mamuju Police will continue to crack down on illegal mining activities and urged the public to immediately report any evidence of similar activities in their area.
