inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Police are investigating the death of a crew member on the OB AS Power 7 barge, Moh. Sulton, who was found dead in the waters off Marunda, North Jakarta.

The Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police's Water and Air Unit Directorate is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the victim falling overboard while working on the ship.

"The victim was found deceased on Tuesday (9/8/2026), approximately 15 meters from the ship," said Head of the Sub-Directorate for Law Enforcement at the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police's Water Unit Directorate, Superintendent Ardhie Demastyo, in Jakarta on Wednesday (9/9/2026).

After being found, the victim's body was evacuated by a Basarnas vessel to the Marunda Navy Post Pier. The body was then taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The incident occurred on Monday (9/7/2026) at around 4:15 PM. At the time, Sulton was working on sealing the main hole of the void tank on the starboard side of the ship with a colleague.

"A witness, a co-worker of the victim, called Sulton to turn on the lights and lower the flag, but received no response. After a search of the entire barge area, the victim was nowhere to be found," said Ardhie.

Suspicions that the victim had fallen overboard arose after the ship's crew examined CCTV footage. The footage showed Sulton falling overboard while working on the ship.

Based on initial examination of witnesses and CCTV footage, the victim is strongly suspected of having fallen overboard due to a work accident while working on the ship's tank.

To fully uncover the cause of the incident, police have conducted a crime scene investigation (TKP), interviewed several witnesses, and completed the investigation.

"We have carried out all necessary measures, from examining the scene, evacuating the vessel, to questioning witnesses. The investigation is ongoing to complete the facts on the ground," said Ardhie.

The police will then seek information from the victim's family. Investigators will also conduct a case review to confirm the entire sequence of events based on the facts and evidence found in the field.

The Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police ensures that the investigation process will be conducted transparently and professionally to determine the exact cause of death.
