Police investigates the cause of Tegal Alun Block forest fire in Papandayan Mountain conservation area, West Java. “The cause of the fire is still being investigated,” says Cisurupan Police Chief, First Police Inspector Asep Saepudin quoted from Antaranews on Monday (10/23/2023). He explains police receive the report of a wildfire in Papandayan Mountain on Sunday (10/22/2023) night. Police then deploy their unit to the location to inspect the location and extinguish the fire. Asep says the fire lasted to Monday noon although the fire has grew smaller then it was on Sunday night. He states that his party with joint officials from other institutions and also volunteers are still focus on extinguishing the fire and anticipate another fire, while also investigating the case. On that occasion, he confirms that the area is the climbing path, but rarely used by climbers because of it is far and borders with Bandung Regency. He says the fire location is difficult to reach and far from residential areas, this caused officials struggled to extinguish the fire. “The fire is at the middle of the jungle, far from the people and cannot be reached by fire extinguishers. Currently joint officers are still on standby at the location," he said. Meanwhile, Head of the Garut Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Aah Anwar Saefulloh, added that the fire location is usually used for camping. The burned forest area was reported to consist of bushes and trees. The area of land burned is not yet known. (ad/fa/pr/nm)
