inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. The East Java Regional Police's Special Criminal Investigation Directorate has uncovered an illegal practice of subsidized Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) adulteration from 3-kg to 12-kg cylinders.
Following the investigation conducted by the police in Malang Regency on Thursday, July 31, 2025, a man identified as MA (49) was arrested.
MA (49) was arrested after being caught red-handed injecting gas from a subsidized 3-kg LPG cylinder into a non-subsidized 12-kg cylinder.
This was conveyed by Head of Public Information Sub-division of the East Java Regional Police, Police Assistant Superintendent Gandi Darma Yudanto during a press conference on Tuesday (8/5/2025).
"The perpetrator has been operating this illegal activity for a year and has generated profits of more than IDR 160,200,000," said Gandi.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Damus Asa says that in the case reveal, police confiscated hundreds of 3 kg and 12 kg LPG along with a car with license plate number N 9085 EH, a digital scale, and other equipment used by the suspect in carrying out his actions.
According to Damus, the suspect can produce 5–6 12-kg LPG cylinders daily from their illegal operation.
For their action, the suspect is being charged under Article 55 of Law No. 22/2001 concerning Oil and Gas, as amended by Law No. 6/2023 concerning Job Creation.
"The threat is up to 6 years in prison and a fine of Rp 60 billion," said Superintendent Damus.
