Inp.polri.go.id – Riau Island. The Riau Island Regional Police Special Criminal Investigation Directorate apprehended two men allegedly involved in online prostitution through MiChat app. The two were arrested in a hotel on Batam City.
Police Senior Superintendent Yudha Prawira, the Director of Riau Island Special Criminal Investigation Directorate, says that the case uncovering started with a report from the local community.
“Afterwards, our team perform cyber patrol to monitor the activity in MiChat. One of our members, then, able to contact an account with the initial of W, and the account offered the service of his two women,” said Yudha on Tuesday (2/6/2024).
Following a contact with W, the investigators met with the two victims. From the two victims, police found out that the account was managed by two persons, RE and RAP. The police unit then immediately pursue the two suspect and arrest them.
“To our cyber patrol member, W offered a short time sexual service for IDR 600,000,” says the Riau Island Regional Police Special Criminal Investigation Director.
Furthermore, from the arrest, police confiscated a phone, a car and its certificate, a contraception, and a cash of IDR 600,000.
For their crimes, suspects will be charged with Article 45 Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 27 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions, as well as Article 30 in conjunction with Article 4 Paragraph (2) Letter D of Law Number 44 of 2008 concerning Pornography and/or Article 2 Paragraph (1) Jo Paragraph (2) Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning Eradication of the Crime of Human Trafficking.
