inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Riau Regional Police have uncovered a case of theft from public facilities, specifically road infrastructure, at several locations in Batam City. They arrested eight perpetrators, including thieves and receivers.
The Head of Public Relations of the Riau Islands Regional Police stated that the disclosure was the result of a follow-up to three police reports.
"From this disclosure, we have detained eight perpetrators, each with a role: one as a thief and the other as receivers," said Senior Superintendent Nona Pricillia.
Based on the investigation, the perpetrators stole several public facilities, such as traffic light control boxes, signal transmitter towers, and street lighting cables.
"These perpetrators make theft a livelihood. Some are repeat offenders who have committed similar acts repeatedly," she said.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Batam emphasized that the theft not only causes material losses but also has a direct impact on the wider community.
"This isn't about the value of the stolen goods, but rather a public facility issue that is disrupting the entire Batam City community," said Amsakar Achmad.
