inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto monitored the progress of forest and land fires in several areas of Sumatra and Kalimantan, with approximately 209.78 hectares of land still being extinguished.
The monitoring took place during a closed meeting on disaster management conducted via hybrid video conference from the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (9/23/2026). The meeting specifically discussed the development of forest and land fires, particularly in West and Central Kalimantan.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that President Prabowo requested an update on the condition of forest and land fires and the progress of the handling in Kalimantan and Sumatra.
"This afternoon, the President requested an update from the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) regarding the condition of forest and land fires in Kalimantan, specifically West and Central Kalimantan, and Kalimantan as a whole, and also in Sumatra," Teddy said in a statement.
The Head of BNPB, Suharyanto, reported that as of Wednesday, approximately 209.78 hectares of land were still being extinguished by teams in the field.
"We report that as of today, 209.78 hectares are still being extinguished. We are monitoring this daily so we strive to extinguish a large number of fires each day," he said.
The government is also intensifying its handling of forest and land fires, including through massive weather modification operations, which will continue at least until the rainy season returns to normal.
President Prabowo was accompanied by State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra at the Merdeka Palace during the meeting.
The Head of BNPB, Suharyanto, and the Head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Teuku Faisal Fathani, delivered reports from their respective locations via video conference.
The meeting emphasized President Prabowo's attention to the development of forest and land fires on the ground. Daily monitoring is being conducted to ensure that extinguishing efforts can quickly eliminate remaining fire hotspots.
