inp.polri.go.id – President Joko Widodo expressed his deep concern over the widespread of cases that occurred to children in Indonesia. Starting from sexual violence, neglect, to bullying which has recently become a hot conversation on various social media platforms as well as the wider community.
“The rise of cases of violence against children is a concern for all of us. First of all, I would like to express my deep condolences to the Indonesian children who are victims of violence. We need to remember that children are our shared responsibility, the responsibility of parents, the responsibility of educators, the responsibility of schools, the responsibility of the community. We have to prevent sexual violence and bullying to our children," said President Joko Widodo after attending the commemoration of National Children's Day at the Bogor Botanical Gardens, Saturday (23/7).
President Joko Widodo advised to look after our children so that the next generation of the nation can live and grow to be a better generation. The children should have filled with joy, fun, and freedom to explore their creativity.
"Don't let bullying, sexual violence, or neglect happen to our children in their surrounding environment, let alone in educational institutions and Islamic boarding schools. All violence, both verbal and psychological, that occurs to children must be stopped," said President Joko Widodo.
President Joko Widodo stressed that all forms of sexual violence that have entered the realm of criminal acts must be processed immediately with the existing rules, whoever is involved in it. Moreover, currently the government has issued Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence or the TPKS Law, which has been regulated in such a way as to provide protection and fulfill the rights of victims.
Responding to the widespread reporting of cases of violence against children, the Minister for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Bintang Puspayoga stated that her party continues to strive for synergies and collaborations from multi-sectors to jointly fight violence against children and ensure children's rights are fulfilled.
