inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Chairman of the Press Council Komaruddin Hidayat invited all stakeholders to jointly face the rampant digital waste that pollutes public spaces.

He called this phenomenon a threat to people's thinking and behavior, which are now largely shaped by digital algorithms.

"Because now, they are targeting people's thinking and behavior, or what we are now called digital colonialism," said Komaruddin at the Press Council Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/14/2025).

According to him, people now see the world based on what is displayed by their respective devices. The information that appears is often not necessarily true, but is still consumed without verification.

He considered that this issue is not only the responsibility of the Press Council, but also needs to involve journalists, teachers, ministries, and social media platforms themselves.

This aims to educate the public and carry out "main cleansing" of public discourses that are increasingly filled with low-quality content.

"We need cooperation to educate the public, but also to clean up thoughts and garbage that interfere with our discourse communication. There are so many now," said Komaruddin.

Komaruddin hopes that this cross-sector cooperation can strengthen the public's resilience to the flood of misleading information and distance the public from educational values.
