inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police is urging the public to be wary of a new fraud scheme that impersonates the police institution under the guise of conducting online case investigations through online applications.

"We urge the police not to conduct investigations, arrests, or searches via Google Meet (online)," said Jakarta Regional Metro Police Public Relations Chief Senior Superintendent Budi Hermanto.

Budi explained that the perpetrators carried out their actions by posing as police officers investigating a case, then intimidating the victims.

"The perpetrators' methods are to intimidate or guide the victims virtually," he said, as reported by Sinpo.id, Saturday (7/18/2026).

In their actions, the perpetrators also asked victims to scan certain QR codes and provide personal banking information.

"Especially by asking victims to scan QR codes or provide banking information," he said.

Therefore, Budi urged anyone who falls victim to this fraudulent crime to immediately report it to the nearest police station.

"For those who believe they have been victims, we ask that you immediately report to the nearest police station or contact the official Police Call Center at 110 for further action," he concluded.
