Inp.polri.go.id - Kupang. The main Trans Flores road connecting Larantuka in East Flores and Maumere in Sikka remains closed due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.
East Flores Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Nyoman Putra Sandita confirmed the diversion on Saturday (16/11/2024) from the Lewolaga Command Post, saying, “This measure is essential to anticipate further eruptions.”
Since the initial eruption, traffic has been rerouted via the northern coastal route. Diversions are in place in Konga Village, Titihena District, and Talibura District to ensure public safety.
“We have stationed officers from traffic units, Sabhara, and Brimob, supported by the TNI, to manage the closures from both Sikka and Larantuka,” Chief Sandita added, as reported by antaranews.com
The Geological Agency’s Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has maintained the volcano's alert level at Level IV. Observations on Saturday showed varying conditions, with smoke columns rising 200-1,000 meters.
Authorities urge the public and visitors to avoid activities within a 7 km radius of the eruption center and up to 9 km southwest to northwest.
