Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) confirmed on Saturday night (31/5/2025) that the collision between two cargo vessels in the Batu Ampar waters, Batam, Riau Islands on Saturday was caused by severe weather.
“The incident occurred around 3.30 pm local time due to heavy rain and strong winds,” said Bakamla spokesperson Major Yuhanes Antara, as quoted by antara news.com.
The collision involved the Indonesian-flagged MV Sekar Permata and MV Roba, flagged to an unspecified island nation.
MV Sekar Permata suffered damage including a broken life raft, bent railings, and a shattered stern ornament. MV Roba sustained only minor scratches. The collision was deemed a weather-related accident, with MV Roba losing anchor control due to the storm.
Both ship operators have agreed to settle the matter amicably, with MV Roba’s operator accepting responsibility for repairs under supervision of port and maritime safety authorities.
