inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Riau Islands Regional Police have uncovered alleged trade violations related to the import of three used aircraft engines from Singapore to Batam. The three turbo engines are estimated to be worth around IDR 30 billion.

Riau Islands Regional Police Public Relations Chief, Senior Superintendent Nona Pricillia Ohei, stated that the three aircraft engines were seized by the Riau Islands Regional Police's Special Criminal Investigation Directorate on August 15, 2026, on Duyung Road, Batu Ampar District, Batam.

"This is the import of three second-hand aircraft engines or turbo engines from Singapore. The goods were seized on August 15 and are valued at approximately IDR 30 billion, with each engine valued at around IDR 10 billion," Nona said in Batam on Thursday (10/1/2026).

In this investigation, the police named four suspects: LH, AE, AS, and DJ. All four are suspected of having different roles in the process of shipping and receiving the aircraft engines.

Head of Sub-Directorate I of the Special Crimes Investigation Directorate of the Riau Islands Regional Police, Superintendent Paksi Eka Saputra, explained that the case was uncovered after investigators discovered three aircraft engines that were suspected to be in poor condition and had been in Batam for approximately seven months.

"These items had been in Batam for seven months. They weren't immediately shipped to their destinations, but deliberately waited and manipulated the necessary documentation to ensure they arrived," he said.

The three engines were discovered during a transfer from a warehouse. Investigators suspect the transfer occurred after the previous warehouse's lease expired.

"They may have moved the item because the previous warehouse's lease expired, so we secured them during the transfer process. Ownership of the items has been temporarily linked to a suspect with the initials LH," said Paksi.

Investigators are currently investigating the involvement of several companies listed on the shipping and receiving documents for the engines.

"The documents mention companies A, B, and C, but when we checked, these companies were no longer listed. The investigation is still ongoing, so it's possible there are other suspects," said Paksi.

Based on the documents secured, the aircraft engines were transported to Batam on a dry stack construction vessel. The final destination was listed as Jakarta.

The engines were allegedly intended to be used as aircraft spare parts. Police are also investigating the roles of each suspect, from offering the shipping job, handling the paperwork, to finding a party willing to receive and sell the spare parts.
