Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Military (TNI) confirmed that 13 people, including four TNI personnel, died in an ammunition explosion in Sagara Village, Cibalong District, Garut, West Java, on Monday morning (12/5/2025).
“We are coordinating with local authorities to secure and clear the site, as we fear the possibility of further explosions,” said TNI Head of Public Information Major Genera Kristomei Sianturi in a televised interview from Jakarta.
The blast occurred around 9.30 a during the destruction of expired ammunition at a site regularly used by the Army, which is managed by the Garut Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA). The ammunition belonged to the Army’s Central Ammunition Depot III, under the Equipment Center (Puspalad).
All victims were evacuated to Pameungpeuk Regional Hospital for autopsy and proper handling. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak also confirmed the incident and stated that a full inquiry is underway to determine what triggered the deadly blast.
