Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Transportation’s Directorate General of Sea Transportation detained a Vanuatu-flagged vessel, Fianit NYDH3, with six Russian crew members in Tanjung Berakit waters, Bintan, Riau Islands.

The Director of the Sea and Coastal Guard at the Ministry Jon Kenedi said on Saturday (4/1/2025) that the ship was intercepted after its erratic movements were detected by Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) Batam. 

A patrol vessel, KN Sarotama 112, was deployed by the Sea and Coastal Guard Base (PPLP) Tanjung Uban to investigate and detain the ship. Initial findings revealed the captain claimed engine trouble but failed to present official documents, including a sailing permit. The ship’s destination was also unclear.

“There are indications of illegal actions that threaten maritime safety and security,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com

Authorities suspect potential violations, including operating without permits, possible hazardous waste dumping, and activities causing environmental harm and state revenue losses.

The vessel is now docked at the Tanjung Uban Sea and Coastal Guard Base pier for further investigation. 

Investigations are ongoing, with the Ministry’s Civil Servant Investigators (PPNS) leading the case.
