inp.polri.go.id – The United States declared monkeypox as a public health emergency after recording a total of 6,600 cases of monkeypox infection in US, on Thursday (4/8). "We are ready to take our response to the next level in tackling this virus, and we urge every American to take monkeypox seriously and help us contain the virus," said US Health and Human Services secretary Xavier Becerra. Experts believe the actual number of cases is much higher because symptoms may go undetected. About 99% of monkeypox cases in the US infect homosexual men. They have become the priority target who will be vaccinated. The US declaration came after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak a global health emergency in June. The declaration in the US was originally only valid for 90 days, but has now been extended. Meanwhile, the commissioner for the US Food and Drug Administration, Robert Califf, said his agency was considering a move that would allow doctors to administer five doses of the vaccine based on an existing vial dose. Vaccines are currently given by injection in the subcutaneous or layer of skin that is under the dermis. While newer approaches allow inoculation to be done intradermally or injected into the dermis.
