Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has found elements of premeditation in the fatal shooting of three police officers in Way Kanan, Lampung, involving an Indonesian Military (TNI) soldier.

The conclusion was based on evidence that the suspect, Basarsyah, had ordered a colleague to retrieve a firearm shortly before opening fire.

"He fired a warning shot into the air, then directly shot two officers—Assistant Second Inspector Petrus Apriyanto and Asisstant Senior Inspector Lusiyanto. While fleeing, he shot a third officer who returned fire."," said Komnas HAM Deputy Chair Abdul Haris Semendawai at a press conference Friday (23/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

Komnas HAM said the incident reflects broader issues, including misuse of weapons by state agents and weak civil monitoring. The suspect was also allegedly involved in illegal cockfighting.

The commission urged an independent investigation under a civilian-military judicial mechanism to ensure justice and accountability. The case, it said, must uphold human rights standards and prevent future abuses involving armed forces personnel.
