Inp.polri.go.id - Cirebon. The West Java Regional Police are investigating potential operational negligence following a deadly landslide at a mining site in Gunung Kuda, Cirebon, which killed over a dozen people.

“The investigation has been ongoing since the day after the incident. Several witnesses have been questioned, and we’ve received reports of improper mining methods,” said West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan during a site visit on Saturday (31/5/2025), as quoted by antara news.com.

Authorities are probing whether safety protocols were breached, especially in light of the West Java Governor’s recent revocation of mining permits for three companies operating at the site.

If negligence is confirmed, the investigation will proceed under laws on mining, occupational safety, environmental protection, and Article 359 of the Criminal Code, which addresses deaths caused by negligence.

A joint task force of 400 personnel, including a Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team, has been deployed. DNA samples from victims’ families are being collected to assist in identificatation efforts.
