inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. BPJS Kesehatan until now cannot cover all costs for all types of diseases, especially diseases that require large amounts of money.

Indonesian Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that people can use private insurance to cover the difference in medical costs that cannot be covered by BPJS Kesehatan. He also said that the government is improving the mechanism so that people have additional protection through private insurance.

"This is what the government is working on so that people are not burdened with large costs when they are sick. Ideally, if BPJS cannot cover everything, the rest can be covered by additional insurance," said Budi Gunadi in a discussion session in Jakarta, on last Thursday (1/16/2025).

He explained that there are several serious illnesses that require high medical costs. On the contrary, BPJS Kesehatan only sets a contribution of IDR 48,000 per month per head, which is considered inadequate to cover all medical costs.

"Imagine the many expensive treatments that BPJS would cover, it can be hundreds of millions to tens of millions, so it is impossible to cover them all. Then, what happens if the treatment is not covered by BPJS? Ideally, it should be covered by the other insurance," he added.

Despite the limitations, he assures and emphasizes that BPJS still provides significant benefits to the community.
