inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, has urged digital platforms to develop technological solutions to prevent child users from manipulating their age when registering accounts.
He highlighted that children tend to manipulate their age when registering on digital platforms to circumvent age restrictions.
"When we log into a platform, we're asked for our age or date of birth, and that can easily be manipulated by anyone who wants access. We've also collaborated with a number of platforms to encourage them to provide technological solutions for this," explained Vice Minister Nezar Patria, Friday (2/6/2026).
He added that a number of digital platforms are currently testing features to prevent age manipulation, one of which is the age inferential method, or behavior-based age detection.
Age inferential technology allows platform algorithms to read user behavioral tendencies. Even if a user doesn't state their actual age, the system can identify them based on the content they consume.
If a child's behavioral patterns are detected, but they are on an adult account, the system will automatically block access to harmful content.
He also touched on facial recognition methods, but said this needs further discussion as it relates to the security of users' personal data.
"It's still under discussion, including on the platforms. We must comply with all regulations, not just this regulation, which might clash with other regulations," highlights Nezar.
Previously, the Vice Minister of Communication and Digital stated that digital platforms are responsible for implementing user age verification systems to protect children in the digital space.
According to him, this aligns with Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection (PP TUNAS), which requires digital platforms to verify user ages and limit negative content.
