The Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) of North Penajam Paser Regency has been monitoring suspected online prostitution activities near the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) area in East Kalimantan to curb emerging social issues around Indonesia’s new administrative hub.

“We’ve been monitoring the situation for the past three months following reports from local residents and village authorities,” said Bagenda Ali, the Head of Satpol PP North Penajam Paser, on Sunday (25/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

Investigations revealed a common modus operandi: sex workers temporarily stay at local inns or hotels, activating location-based apps to attract clients. Arrested offenders are typically sent back to their home regions, according to antaranews.com

Despite enforcement, offenders often return, prompting ongoing patrols. 

Bagenda noted that while the IKN Authority is now in place, local regulation enforcement remains under the regency’s jurisdiction.

Authorities call for stronger collaboration to address the issue, which has caused concern among the local community.
