Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Bali Governor Wayan Koster has launched a multi-agency task force to investigate and crack down on illegal business activities run by foreigners on the island.

“We’re forming a joint task force to audit tourism business licenses across Bali,” he announced Sunday (1/6/2025), citing growing concerns from local communities and MSMEs over the dominance of foreign-run enterprises.

The task force—comprising local administration agencies, national ministries, and tourism associations—was created following findings of systemic misuse of Indonesia’s Online Single Submission (OSS) licensing platform by foreign entities.

In Badung regency alone, Governor Koster noted, over 400 car rental and tour licenses are held by foreigners, many without offices or residency.

“Bali must not become a free market that marginalizes its own people,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The initiative begins with a circular on tourism and transportation enforcement, followed by joint operations with police and regulatory authorities.

All tour agencies will also be required to register with local associations and undergo field verification to curb “phantom” companies.
