Inp.polri.go.id - Cirebon. Indonesian police have named two suspects in connection with a fatal landslide at the Gunung Kuda limestone quarry in Cirebon, West Java, that killed 19 workers on Friday.
Cirebon Sub-regional Police Chief Senior Superintendent Sumarni said on Sunday (1/5/2025) that the suspects —mine owner AK and site supervisor AR— ignored safety protocols, allowing operations to proceed on unstable ground. The collapse buried workers, trucks, and excavators.
Despite two official warnings from the West Java Energy and Mineral Resources Agency, the mining operation continued without an approved Work Plan and Budget, a legal prerequisite for production activities.Authorities have seized mining equipment and related permits. The West Java ESDM Office has now revoked the mining license of Koperasi Al-Zariyah, a cooperative that is responsible as the operator, citing repeated administrative violations.
The suspects face charges under the Environmental Law, Labor Law, Occupational Safety Law, and the Criminal Code, with penalties of up to 15 years' imprisonment and Rp 15 billion in fines.
