Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) confirmed the destruction of 5.7 tons of shrimp contaminated with radioactive Cesium-137, calling the operation a crucial step to safeguard national food safety.

The contaminated products, packed in 494 cartons, were destroyed on Saturday at PT Prasadha Pamunah Limbah Industri (PPLI) in Bogor, West Java.

“This destruction reflects the government’s firm commitment to protecting food safety,” said Akhmad Alfaraby, Director of Fish Quarantine Actions at Barantin, on Sunday (16/11/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.

Barantin carried out the disposal using strict radiation-safety protocols. The shrimp were incinerated in a vertical-stoker system equipped with air-emission controls and continuous monitoring technology.

Rasio Ridho Sani, the Deputy for Pollution and Environmental Damage Control, said the ash will undergo further processing before being placed in a secure landfill.

Authorities said that the operation aims to ensure all food commodities in circulation remain safe and free from environmental or health risks.
