The Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, stated that the implementation of the Free Nutritional Meals (MBG) program now adopts a strict approach with a "zero defect" principle, inspired by the health control system implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Head of the BGN stated that this step was taken to ensure that every portion of food received by recipients is guaranteed safe, nutritious, and free from health risks.

"We are working to equip all Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG)s with rapid tests to check the food raw ingredients. Japan's 100 years of experience in nutritious food shows that 90 percent of digestive disorders arise from the quality of the food ingredients," said the Head of the BGN on Tuesday (10/21/2025).

He explained that the BGN has set new standards for Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG). The average beneficiary per SPPG is now set at between 2,000 and 2,500 children, and can reach 3,000 recipients if the unit has a certified cook.

"Then, we're asking for professional chefs to accompany new SPPGs for five days and if necessary, they will be assigned to the SPPGs for longer days," said the Head of the National Food Safety Agency (BGN).

Furthermore, the BGN will equip all SPPGs with high-tech food tray sterilizers.

"With this device, washed food containers can be dried in three minutes at 120 degrees Celsius," he concluded.

The Head of the BGN added that water quality is also a primary concern, so water used for cooking must be certified as safe for consumption, such as gallon water or refillable water that has gone through an official certification process.

"Because water quality in Indonesia is still uneven, we will work on this," said the Head of the BGN.
