Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed on Thursday (26/6/2025) that the importation of breeding cattle is conducted through private investment, not financed by the state budget.

The initiative aims to strengthen food security and develop a sustainable livestock industry under the 2025–2029 development plan.

"This is not just importation — it’s part of an integrated investment. We've secured commitments from 196 dairy and 84 beef cattle businesses, both domestic and foreign," said Agung Suganda, the Director General of Livestock and Animal Health, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Over 22,000 cattle have arrived by mid-2025, as part of the target to import 1 million dairy and 1 million beef cattle within five years. The imported cattle are mostly pregnant, to help accelerate national livestock population growth.

Although cattle imports are now quota-free, businesses must commit to supporting national production. Fiscal and non-fiscal incentives are provided, and local partnerships with cooperatives and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are being built to ensure long-term sustainability.
