Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The sovereign wealth fund Danantara is currently reviewing technical options to finalize the purchase of 50 Boeing aircraft for national carrier Garuda Indonesia.
The plan is made after a reciprocal trade agreement signed between Indonesia and the United States last week, mandating aviation procurement valued at $13.5 billion. Danantara Managing Director Rohan Hafas confirmed the commitment to proceed while navigating global supply chain hurdles.
"We are ready to purchase 50 units, but we are waiting for Boeing to confirm their delivery capacity, whether it be 10 or 20 units initially," he said on Thursday (26/2/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
Rohan noted that global waiting lists for new aircraft currently average seven years, prompting Danantara to explore creative solutions such as supplier credits and direct installment schemes.
To support this fleet expansion, the agency may provide further capital injections following a previous Rp 23.67 trillion allocation in 2025. This acquisition aims to modernize Garuda’s fleet and improve operational efficiency across international routes.
