Head of Jakarta’s Environmental Agency Asep Kuswanto highlighted the significance of the sightings, as dolphins are usually found in open seas.
"Their presence near inhabited islands shows notable progress in marine conservation," Asep said on Friday (10/1/2025).
Known for their sensitivity to pollution, dolphins avoid contaminated waters. Their appearance suggests fruitfull initiatives like waste management and coastal cleanups.
The sightings have motivated local cleanup teams, with dolphins often following their boats during operations. Asep urged the public to support efforts to protect marine ecosystems, emphasizing their importance for sustainability.
