inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan warned the Indonesian National Police (INP) to be aware of the changes of villages into “drug villages”.
The Prevention Working Group, which is part of the Drug Eradication Desk led by the Chief of Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has mapped 290 “drug villages” (areas suspected of being drug distribution centers) in various regions in Indonesia.
Currently, the Prevention Working Group is gradually transforming drug villages into drug-free villages.
"INP and its ranks have launched a drug-free village, and of course with this launch, what we need to be aware of are other villages that are aimed to be the next drug villages," said Budi on Thursday (12/5/2024).
On the same occasion, General Sigit said that so far there are approximately 90 drug villages that are being explored to be changed into drug-free villages. There are various strategies taken by the police, including launching various counseling programs, education programs, and including anti-drug materials in the school curriculum.
"We also hold competitions. So, for units in the region that can change their areas that are known to be drug villages into drug-free villages, we will give them awards and the rewards," said the Chief of Police.
He also said that prevention efforts also require support from all parties, including the community.
