Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Anticipation has been building in the Asian football community as Indonesia's U-23 national team prepared to take on some tough opposition in Group A of the Asian Cup U-23. Despite a tough draw that pits them against the likes of Qatar, Australia and Jordan, Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) president Erick Thohir has expressed confidence in the country's young talents, antaranews.com reported. In a statement on Friday (24/11/2023), he expressed his belief that despite being drawn in a tough group, the Indonesian team will not be daunted by the prospect of facing experienced opponents. Erick highlighted the ample time they have had to prepare, including physical conditioning, technical skill development and tactical strategy. Indonesia were placed in Group A alongside hosts Qatar, Australia and Jordan at the draw in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday. The difficulty of the group was underlined by the fact that all three of their opponents have previous FIFA U-17 World Cup experience. Indonesia stood out as the only newcomer making their debut at this prestigious tournament. Qatar, Australia and Jordan, on the other hand, have a wealth of experience, with Australia and Qatar taking part in 2022 and Jordan in 2013. Erick acknowledged the daunting task ahead for head coach Shin Tae-yong, who must work diligently to mould the U-23 side into a formidable force capable of competing at the highest level in Asia. The president asserted the need for both the coaching staff and the players to put in extra effort and show a strong determination to improve. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
