Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas has encouraged Egypt to join the Apostille Convention to simplify cross-border document legalization between the two countries.

“Apostille services are crucial for our citizens studying abroad, including in Egypt. This would also help Egyptian nationals who need their documents legalized for use in Indonesia,” he confirmed on Thursday *29/5/2025) following a meeting with Egyptian Ambassador Yasser Elshemy.

The minister also sought Egypt’s support for Indonesia’s bid to become a member of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), where Egypt is already a member. Although not yet a full member, Indonesia is currently connected to the HCCH through the Apostille Convention.

The two sides also discussed expanding cooperation as Indonesia and Egypt mark 80 years of diplomatic relations.

Minister Supratman highlighted the need for a formal agreement on intellectual property, noting the potential to boost trade in Indonesian agricultural products like palm oil and fruit.
