inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian Minister of Law Supratman Andi Atgas in a meeting with the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt Yasser Elshemy in Jakarta, Tuesday (27/5), invited Egypt to participate in the Apostille Convention so that the validation of documents from both countries can be carried out more easily.
The Apostille Convention is an international agreement that aims to simplify the validation process of foreign public documents.
"We have our own people who study abroad, including in Egypt. Apostille services are very much needed for the validation of their documents and vice versa as it will make it easier for Egyptian citizens who need to validate documents to go to Indonesia," said Supratman, as quoted by Antaranews in Jakarta, Thursday (5/29/2025).
Supratman also asked for support from the Arab Republic of Egypt so that Indonesia can become a member of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), considering that Egypt has already become a member of the HCCH.
HCCH is an international organization that produces multilateral legal instruments so that it helps its members in developing national and international law.
Although Indonesia is not yet a member of HCCH, he said, Indonesia has become one of the connected parties or parties connected to HCCH for the Apostille Convention.
"Indonesia is applying to become a member of HCCH and the Service Convention. We hope Egypt can support us in this membership," he said.
In the meeting, the Indonesian Minister of Law also discussed the increase in cooperation between Indonesia and Egypt in celebrating diplomatic relations between the two countries in various fields.
The Government of Indonesia and the Arab Republic of Egypt will celebrate 80 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Therefore, Supratman encouraged economic and trade cooperation on various products that have intellectual property value.
