Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Professional and Security Division of the Indonesian National Police (INP) ensures the effort in maintaining police neutrality has been carried out in various ways, as was instructed by INP Chief, Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
“There is an instruction from the Police Chief regarding [election] neutrality. There is also regulation on Police at Article 28 paragraphs (1) and (2) which states police has to be neutral during election,” says Professional and Security Division Chief, Inspector General Syahardiantono on Sunday (12/17/2023).
Syahardiantono adds that his party has prepared pre-emptive, preventive, and repressive measures for all police members.
Meanwhile, regarding INP maintaining its neutrality, member of National Police Commission (Kompolnas) Albertus Wahyurudhanto states that people also have to know the regulations at Bhayangkara Corps for their stance during election. Albertus underscores the regulations which states that police members are prohibited from participating in political activities.
In this context, he ensures police as one of the leading sectors responsible for the election to go safely, secure, and smoothly.
“However, getting involved does not mean that we support to certain politics, but instead our support will be particularly towards to KPU and Bawaslu in organizing the election,” said Albertus.
Also, according to KPU Regulations Numb 17 of 2007, it was clearly stated that police are tasked with protecting the presidential and vice-presidential candidate, the ballot, and ensure all election processes go accordingly.
Albertus also reminds that the main task of the police is to protect civil norms, which one of them is democracy.
“Do not get involved, even in showing symbols, signs, or activities. We have to be committed in ensuring the election goes smoothly according to the regulations,” says Albertus in conclusion.
