The tragedy at the wedding celebration of Maula Akbar Mulyadi and Garut Deputy Regent Putri Karlina occurred on Friday (7/18/2025) at around 1:00 PM at the Garut Regency Hall. The event had provided approximately 5,000 portions of food.

Maula is the eldest son of the West Java Governor, while Putri is the daughter of the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police Chief.

Residents jostled at one of the gates of the Garut Regency Hall as they queued for food. The hall is located in Garut City District.

A video circulating on social media shows more than 1,000 residents of various ages jostling each other to the point of immobilization. Some residents were even trampled.

"These 10 people include event organizers, police officers, Civil Service Police Unit officers, ambulance drivers, and doctors who treated the victims," said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit, as reported by Kompas, Monday (7/21/2025).
