Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian Army Chief of Staff Gen. Maruli Simanjuntak said on Thursday (13/3/2025) that Lt. Col. Teddy Indra Wijaya is not required to resign from the military despite his appointment as Cabinet Secretary.
“As per the Presidential Regulation, resignation is not necessary,” he said at the House of Representatives (DPR) Complex, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Chief Maruli explained that the Cabinet Secretariat falls under the Presidential Military Secretariat, better known as Sesmilpres, traditionally led by a two-star general, and that this structure has remained unchanged.
He also confirmed that Lt. Col. Teddy’s appointment is in line with Indonesia’s military law and the ongoing revision of the TNI Law.
Addressing his recent promotion to lieutenant colonel, Chief Maruli emphasized that similar honorary ranks have been awarded before.
Indonesia’s legal framework allows active military soldiers to assume government roles under Presidential Regulations 148/2024 and 139/2024, which integrate the Cabinet Secretariat within the Ministry of State Secretariat.
