Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. Immigration officers at Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, foiled the departure of six Indonesians suspected of planning to work illegally in Cambodia.

They were stopped as they were about to board Singapore Airlines flight SQ991 bound for Singapore, according to Teodorus Simarmata, the Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration for North Sumatra on Monday (5/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

Initial screening raised suspicions, leading to deeper checks that revealed the travelers lacked official documentation for overseas employment. One of them, identified as "P", initially claimed to be vacationing with family but later admitted plans to work at a restaurant under construction in Phnom Penh.

Another traveler, "C", confessed intentions to open a new restaurant in Cambodia and bring relatives — including P, TS, KC, and RG — as workers. However, C failed to produce legal documents authorizing the recruitment of Indonesian workers.

Immigration promptly coordinated with the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI), which took over the case for further investigation.
