inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia visited the Mount Merapi Volcano Observation Post (PGA) in Kaliurang, Yogyakarta on Sunday (12/29/2024).
The visit, accompanied by member of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Gandung Pardiman, was to ensure that geological conditions remained safe during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
“Me and Gandung Pardiman, along with the Head of Geology Agency came to make sure the volcanic activity situation throughout Indonesia is safe. As of now, the Merapi Volcanic Mountain situation is monitored to be safe and people can enjoy their holidays here,” says Bahlil.
Bahlil notes that monitoring volcanic activity throughout Indonesia through the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Geological Agency.
is part of the direction from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
“We are monitoring all of them, such as in Cilegon, on yesterday, I checked the volcanic activity of Krakatoa Mountain. So in every region, I took the time the review the existing posts as it is part of the president's instruction to review the facilities related to public safety,” adds Bahlil.
On the other hand, Head of the Geological Agency Muhammad Wafid said that PVMBG Geological Agency continues to monitor and supervise volcanic activity of volcanoes throughout Indonesia at all times, not just during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Noting the situation of Mount Merapi, Wafid reminded the community around the Merapi river to be aware of the potential for cold lava floods. High rainfall at the peak of Merapi during the rainy season can carry volcanic material to rivers such as Gendol River, Boyong River, and Kuning River.
"People living around rivers that originate at the peak of Mount Merapi are advised to be aware of the occurrence of lava floods," he said.
