inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. The Riau Regional Police Mobile Brigade Unit is assisting in extinguishing forest and land fires in the Sungai Gajah sub-district, Kubu District, Rokan Hilir Regency.
The operation was led by the Gas Commander, Second Police Inspector Sabam Sihombing in extinguishing fires at several hotspots in Rokan Hilir.
At least four hotspots were observed to be active in three sub-districts: Kubu, Kubu Babussalam, and Pasir Limau Kapas. The burned areas were oil palm plantations on peat soil, which is highly flammable and difficult to extinguish.
The joint team, along with the Riau Regional Police Mobile Brigade, continues to make maximum efforts to prevent and contain the fires from spreading.
Meanwhile, the Riau Regional Police Mobile Brigade Commander, Senior Superintendent I Ketut Gede Adi Wibawa, stated that there were several obstacles in the field in handling the current forest and land fires, including damaged road access, remote fire locations, scorching hot weather, strong winds, and a lack of water sources.
"The distance of the fires from water sources means hoses can't reach them, and the strong winds make the peatland prone to fire. The team is currently carrying out extinguishing and cooling efforts as best as possible to ensure the fires are quickly contained," he said, as reported by the cakaplah website, Sunday (7/20/2025).
In combatting the wild fire, Riau Mobile Brigade personnel are extinguishing the fires using Robin and Striker mini fire engines owned by the Riau Regional Police Mobile Brigade Unit.
"All supporting equipment is functioning properly, and personnel movements in firefighting are being coordinated," he explained.
Concluding, he also emphasized his team's commitment to continuing to support forest and land fire prevention and management efforts in Riau Province.
