Inp.polri.go.id - Palu. The Morowali Sub-regional Police have named three suspects in the vandalism and looting of assets belonging to PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP), partly owned by China’s Tsingshan Steel Group, in Morowali, Central Sulawesi during unrest last week.
Police received two reports after the incident at the PT IMIP Polytechnic Post in Labota Village, Bahodopi District, one for aggravated theft and another for destruction of property.
“Suspects F and NIU have been detained for 20 days as looting suspects, while suspect IM is charged with vandalism,” Morowali Police Criminal Investigation Chief Assistant Senior Inspector Erick Wijaya Siagian said on Tuesday (13/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
He urged others involved to surrender and return stolen goods to reduce penalties.
The suspects allegedly took an automatic level, two concrete drills, two impact drills, and an electric saw. The unrest, sparked by reports of a youth’s death, also saw unidentified groups armed with sharp weapons burn vehicles, loot copper cable rolls, and attack police and PT IMIP employees. Officers fired warning shots and rubber bullets to disperse the mob.
