Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A multi-vehicle collision at kilometer 92 on the Cipularang Toll Road was attributed to a combination of factors, according to the Indonesian National Police (INP) Traffic Police.

The accident, which occurred on 11 November 2024, involved a truck and 17 minivans, resulting in one fatality and dozens injured.

“This incident was due to various contributing factors,” said Senior Superintendent Aries Syahbudin, the INP Traffic Corps Head of Operations, on Saturday (16/11/2024). “These include the driver’s lack of familiarity with the road, vehicle violations, slippery conditions from rain, and ongoing road repairs.”

Authorities conducted a thorough on-site investigation with advanced equipment, including photography and detailed animation reconstruction, to analyze the sequence of events, according to antaranews.com.

Chief Aries emphasized the need for caution, particularly on steep descents.

“We urge drivers to use engine brakes or lower gears on long downhill sections. Engine braking is more effective and helps prevent overheating, which can reduce braking performance,” he advised.

The accident, which occurred during the late afternoon, prompted state-owned toll road operator Jasa Marga  to report significant damage and casualties. The investigation aims to bolster road safety measures and reduce future incidents.
