Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. North Sumatra Regional Police have arrested three suspected drug couriers smuggling 25 kilograms of methamphetamine from Malaysia.
Authorities seized 25 packages disguised as tea, along with a mobile phone allegedly used in the smuggling operation, according to North Sumatra Police Director of Narcotics Senior Superintendent Yemi Mandagi on Friday (21/2/2025).
The suspects, identified as AM (52), H (45), and E (40), were intercepted in Batu Bara Regency after authorities received intelligence about a drug transaction at sea. The drugs were transported by boat from the Malaysia-Indonesia border.
“Suspect H admitted he was instructed by Hendra alias Mandra to pick up the meth in open waters for a Rp 100 million fee, but they were caught before completing the exchange,” Chief Mandagi said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The suspects face life imprisonment or the death penalty under the narcotics law. Police continue investigating the broader smuggling network.
