Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra said that any decision to alter the structure of the Indonesian National Police (INP) lies solely with the President and the House of Representatives (DPR).
“Whether the INP’s current structure remains or changes, the authority rests entirely with the President and Parliament,” he told reporters in Jakarta on Monday (20/10/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
His remarks came amid public debate over President Prabowo Subianto’s proposal to establish a Police Reform Commission, which could review the INP’s organization and powers.
Minister Yusril emphasized that such discussions are legitimate forms of academic and public freedom but clarified that legal changes must follow constitutional procedures. He cited the 1945 Constitution and Law No. 2 of 2002, which place the INP directly under the President.
Any structural reform, he added, must be enacted through legislation approved by both the executive and legislative branches.
