inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf ensured that the people's school program will start from around Jakarta.

"The reason is that this program is still in its early stages and will continue to be developed," he said, as reported by the RRI, on Tuesday (1/14/2025).

In his official statement, he stated that the people's school will take the form of a boarding school that resembles an Islamic boarding school. While the students are prioritized for children from extremely poor families.

Saifullah Yusuf, added that this school will likely start from elementary or junior high school level. 

"However, the decision regarding this matter is still waiting for the results of further studies," he said.

Meanwhile, the teachers and curriculum used will be the same as public schools. However, the boarding system will add educational value and character.

According to him, the boarding environment will later provide an opportunity to build children's character from an early age.

"They will be trained to work together, have empathy, and cultivate the habit of helping each other," he said.

At the end of the opportunity, he also regretted that many children did not receive adequate parenting at home. "Therefore, public schools are expected to be a conducive environment to form positive character," he concluded.
