inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. The East Java Regional Police Cyber Criminal Investigation successfully uncovered the private data theft by scamming the people via nutritious food administration.

"We have named one main suspect with the initials TD and confiscated hundreds of pieces of evidence," said the Head of Public Relations of the East Java Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Jules Abraham Abast, as reported by the Antaranews on Monday (6/23/2025).

In his statement, he explained that this case was revealed from a report received by the police on April 28, 2025. TD and his colleague with the initials K deceived their victims by promising free food assistance for Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) owners.

Instead of being directed to the tax office, people were only asked to submit their ID cards, family cards, and selfies. After obtaining the data, the perpetrators created an electronic NPWP, registered a SIM card, and opened an e-wallet account online.

"The data was then used by the suspect to register an online store account in the Shopee Affiliate program without the data owner's knowledge," he explained.

A total of 130 Shopee accounts were created with fake identities and used for live streaming products at the Kailasop online store in Prambon District, Nganjuk Regency.

The suspect employed seven admins with a shift system to broadcast product promotions in order to earn Shopee Affiliate commissions of between 5–25 percent. All profits went into TD's e-wallet account.

The confiscated evidence included 105 Oppo cellphones, 82 cellphones specifically for live streaming, 129 Shopee accounts, 100 SiBank e-wallet accounts, 129 fake electronic NPWPs, and 129 photos of other people's ID cards.

In being held accountable for his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 51 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 35 paragraph 1 of the ITE Law and Article 67 paragraph 3 in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph 3 of the Personal Data Protection Law, with a threat of 12 years in prison and/or a fine of IDR 12 billion.
