inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Health is collaborating with various ministries and institutions, including the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), to limit advertising for products high in sugar, salt, and fat (GGL) to prevent overweight and obesity in children.
The Director of Non-Communicable Diseases at the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, stated that this is in accordance with Government Regulation (PP) Number 28 of 2024.
According to her, these advertising restrictions are important to prevent children from being influenced by unhealthy food and beverage marketing, given that they often access information through digital media.
In a webinar in Jakarta, Siti Nadia Tarmizi cited data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI), which showed that the prevalence of overweight and obesity in children aged 5-12 years was 11.9 percent for overweight and 7.8 percent for obese. These conditions, she said, can lead to other diseases.
These diseases include a variety of cardiovascular diseases, from stroke to heart disease, diabetes mellitus, cancer, fertility problems such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), and various metabolic and non-metabolic diseases.
"We will move from being a middle-income country, striving to become a developed nation by 2045, with its golden generation. Well, in developed countries, the problem is definitely non-communicable diseases," she explained, as reported by Antaranews, Thursday (7/10/2025).
She also mentioned that the Free Health Check (CKG), targeted at school-age children and adolescents, will be able to identify trends in these two conditions.
"Actually, obesity is the cheapest and easiest thing to treat. Simply by limiting our consumption, exercising, and doing physical activity," she explained.
In addition to Komdigi, her team also collaborates with other ministries and institutions, such as the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM), on food labeling and education.
