Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has announced plans to launch Liga 1 Putri, the country’s top-tier women’s football league, in 2027—delaying the previously targeted 2026 start.
PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir said on Friday (21/2025) that the decision was made to allow for better preparation, particularly in terms of player development and commercial viability. “We are projecting potential in various aspects, including operations, competition, and commercial growth over the next 10 years,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
To ensure a sustainable league, PSSI will study successful women’s leagues in countries like the Netherlands, Japan, and England.
“With thorough preparation, we aim for Liga 1 Putri to run long-term and produce top-quality players for the Indonesian women’s national team,” Chairman Erick added.
