Inp.polri.go.id – East Java. Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVBMG) reports the volcanic activity of Semeru Mountain in East Java is still high and active. The institution reports there are at least 52 eruptions per day.
“The activity of Semeru Volcanic Mountain after spewing hot clouds on September 10th and 11th 2023 is still high,” reports PVBMG in their press release on Monday (9/25/2023).
“The high activity was shown by high rates of eruptions of 52 per day from September 11th to 23rd 2023,” they add.
Furthermore, PVBMG informed that the status level for Lumajang and Malang Regency is on Level III since Desember 16th 2023 due to recent activity of Mount Semeru.
On the other hand, according to deformation monitoring with seven GPS posts shows there is an inflation in the mountain at the depth of 8 km.
“Meanwhile the deformation monitoring using Tiltmeter also shows similar results. There is quite huge inflation detected from remote sensing since September 16th 2023,” he said.
